Writer Interviews

LINZ : MO

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

Art was always in my blood as a kid, but it wasn't till I found graffiti in '92 that it was unleashed....my big bro had a mate from Adelaide who he was knocking around with back around '90 and he used to do my headings for my assignments in primary school, he used to write DSIRE - he had the maddest hand styles, I used to sit there for hours watching him do his art.

When I was in Brissy in '92 I was on the train and seeing graff for the first time all along the lines, the shit was off the hook, I just remember being glued to the window observing every blur of colour as the train whizzed passed, shortly after returning back to Townsville a friend of mine pulled out Hype magazine at the start of English class.... It was all over.....

How did you choose your tag, any special meaning?

Shit! Don't ask....Maybe one day I will tell, it's quite funny, or stupid....

What is it that you love about graffiti that keeps you writing?

The constant testing of oneself... I love that graffiti has no boundaries, I really have no idea where I would be if I never got into graff. Definitely wouldn't be working in a bank or for a major corporation.

Tell us about your style and how it has developed over the years.

My first true main interest in graffiti was characters....When I first seen Broke`s characters in Hype magazine all them years ago I was like...Gooooodamn!

I always felt that characters had more ability to grab peoples attention on a grand scale so I started practising them.... I was always doing letters as well but it wasnt until around 99 that I felt I had neglected my lettering so I went back to the drawing board and got more in it.

These days I'm trying to push myself on a whole... Lettering, characters, productions, big dirty tags etc etc.

Who have been your major influences?

Jope PMC was a major influence back in the day, that guy had mad style and taught me alot about graffiti and hip hop in general.. good looking out bro!

My boys from Townsville have all been dope influences over the years, not just in graffiti but in friendship and encouragement as well, guys like SMIZLER, LOKUS, DYMS, MREZ and IANZ 1ER my main influences over the years... Shit there is too many to name but a few that spring to the top of my mind is Jope, Seen, Vix, Dorps, Atom, Atome, Hex, Broke, Jury, Jelos, DTS crew, TBK crew.

What music motivates you to paint?

Shit... Well I've been dissed by my mates over the years cos my collection of music is quite thorough...hip hop is up there - groups like LYRICAL COMMISSION get me all geeed up to paint

Memorable mission moment

I'm saving this one for my grandkids!

Any tips you're willing to share to the next generation of writers?

The best advice I can think of is do your thing, put your head down, be humble and give respect and in the long run you will get yours, don't get mixed up with all the wak cunts talking politics, it will only make you sour...

Anything else to add?

Big shout to my crew M.O, you cunts rock!
